Modern technology has become important even in the heart of the African bush. GPS technology is being used to track and study animals, and computers plot the season's veld fires. The children of Skukuza primary need to be computer litterate to prepare them to function competently in modern society.
Some children have access to computer classes at school and they might even have their own computer at home. Skukuza primary and many of its children do not have access to these facilities. The Pretoria Region of the SANParks Honorary Rangers learnt about the school’s need for computers and extra stationary, and decided to help.
Various companies were approached for their support, and ten computers were donated by UNISA, Sylvara Technology donated hardware, stationary was also received from the BIC Graphic Department and various other sources.
The Skukuza Primary School still needs twenty more computers so that each pupil can work on his or her own computer during a lesson and not have to share it with 2 to 3 other pupils. The current computer room is also in need of urgent upgrading so that these computers can be put to task as soon as possible.
Any person or company who wishes to help with this computer upgrading project is welcome to e-mail Honorary Ranger Erika Lemmer or call 0845675580
